On the occasion of Migrant and Political Asylum Seeker Day, which occurs on 20 June, and which coincides with the celebrations in honor of Maria SS. dei Miracoli, patron saint of Alcamo, the Association for the Arts, in collaboration with the Municipality, is organizing the concert of the Libera Orchestra Popolare di Marsala on Wednesday 19 June, at 9.30 pm in Piazza Ciullo, a reality coordinated by the local garrison of Libera in collaboration with Archè Onlus and the Friends of the Third World association, with the support of the Department of Social Services (USSM) and the Department of Juvenile Justice, in which the only rules in force are brotherhood and solidarity.
The protagonists of the exhibition – an event that brings together souls and stories that find each other and that tell of life being reborn – will be the musical group in which people of different ages participate, ranging from 8-year-old children to 60-year-old adults, and migrants aged between 16 and 26. The repertoire will focus on the themes of hospitality, tolerance and integration.
The guitarists and percussionists are coordinated by some volunteers who study at the Conservatory. The group was formed thanks to the donation of some musical instruments to people in situations of social fragility: young people from the penal circuit, foreign minors, asylum seekers and inhabitants of the popular Sappusi neighbourhood. The project then materializes in the context of the activities carried out by the local social center in some rooms donated by the Municipality, and music becomes a tool for intercultural integration. Salvatore Inguì, Libera representative for the province of Trapani and director of the USSM (Social Service Office for minors) explains that with singing and music, in this way those people who today, in our society, have very few opportunity to make their “voice” heard.
