Regarding Benedetti’s appointment, the MIT declares: “In a particularly delicate moment for the Genoa Port Authority, his expertise – combined with high institutional experience – represents a fundamental element to lead, in synergy with the extraordinary commissioner Admiral Massimo Seno, the ports of Genoa and Savona towards a new phase”.

The Ministry concludes the note by wishing Admiral Seno and Professor Benedetti the best of luck in their work.

The growth of the ports of Genoa and Savona is there for all to see: the results of container traffic in the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado in April 2024 were encouraging, as reported by the Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea.

The port system closed April with 259,859 TEUs, with a growth of 12.7% compared to the same month of 2023, thus dispelling fears of a further contraction caused by the Red Sea crisis.

In particular, Genoa grew by 9.3% and Savona by 42.1%. Container traffic at the two ports in the first four months of 2024 stood at 919,178 TEUs, an increase of 2.3% compared to the previous year.
