Cinema under the stars, the XXI edition at the former Caserma Cantore

Inside a new location, but in the name of a program that develops in the wake of the successful previous editions, Cinema under the stars restarts, the event of Arci and Cinemaniaci created in collaboration with the Municipality of Piacenza and with the decisive support of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation.

In its 21st edition, the event from 24 June to 11 September arrives at the former Caserma Cantore, on the Stradone Farnese, granted by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti which owns it. The longest event of the Piacenza cultural summer will keep the projector on for two and a half months, with a program of seventy evenings, an average of six shows a week.

«The Foundation has always been a partner of Cinema sotto le stelle – explains vice-president Mario Magnelli, who is also coordinator of the institution’s Culture Commission -. We continue this collaboration which allows us to propose a wide choice of evenings dedicated to Piacenza cinephiles; this year we are doing it within a setting, the former Caserma Cantore, which we wanted to enhance by also offering the city a program of the cultural summer of Piacenza summer cult”.

The new arena will have dimensions similar to those of the Daturi Arena, used for twenty years in a row, with a maximum capacity of 400 seats. The exhibition will include collaborations with other local entities, screenings in the original language, restored films, premieres, the main successes of the current season, repeats of the most anticipated titles, a focus on topics such as the environment, LGBTQ+ rights and mental health, independent distributions , films presented at international film festivals, Cat Award screenings of “musical” films (which in the new edition will have the relationship between cinema and music as its characterizing theme), first works, guest authors.

«As always, we try to satisfy both the public who want to see popular films, with important casts and which have benefited from notable publicity hype, and the more sophisticated public which is not satisfied and, even from the summer arena, expects d ‘arthouse and the one little distributed in the mainstream circuits – explains Piero Verani, artistic director of Cinema sotto le stelle, president of Cinemaniaci and vice-president of Arci Piacenza -. On the opening evening with Buena vista social club by maestro Wim Wenders we wanted to dedicate a thought to Cuba, which is going through a very complicated historical phase, while the conclusion of the event is entrusted to an author of the future, the young actress and singer Margherita Vicar, with Gloria! which marks his directorial debut.”

THE GUESTS. On the second evening, June 25th, a welcome guest will be Francesco Patierno for his film Wake Me Up at Midnight, a work thanks to which it is possible to do an in-depth study on mental health.
