Florence, 17 June 2024 – This time the vandals didn’t even spare the car by Tommaso Mazzanti, patron of the Antico Vinaio, who recounted the incident with a video on social media in which he shows the damage to the door of his Lamborghini. The episode occurred on Saturday night. “They weren’t angry with me personally, they’re just vandals who have nothing to do, things went even worse for the car next to mine: they trashed it and even stole it, while on mine there was nothing to do take – he underlines – I have known Florence for 35 years, I was born and raised there, how bitter it is to see things like this”. Mazzanti was not the only one to have found himself with the vandalized car. On the same night between at least qeleven people had the bitter surprise between via Borgo Ognissanti, via Montebello and Corso Italia. A wave of break-ins that arrives a few days after the previous one and which adds to small thefts and drug dealing incidents.
For this reason the coordination of the committees Together for the safety of Florence has called an urgent meeting which will take place on Tuesday 18 June at 9pm in Piazza Dalla Piccola. “In light of the continuous and repeated vandalism, petty crime and theft, we will meet to make decisions on the next protest initiatives” underlines the coordinator Simone Gianfaldoni. The Municipal Theater committee, instead, he called a planned demonstration Wednesday 19 June. At 9pm the participants will meet again in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and they will move together for a “Protest Walk”.
“24 smashed cars and an attack on a restaurant in just 48 hours” reads the flyer. Borgo Ognissanti is also dealing with vandals. Here, at least ten residents found themselves having to deal with hundreds of euros in damage on Sunday morning. “We can’t take it anymore – he vents Fabrizio Carabba, president of the Borgognissanti association -, we no longer sleep soundly.
