Bears. Enpa warns PAT: animal attracted by waste, no action can put the animal’s safety at risk. Anti-bear bins still a mirage. The National Animal Protection Agency warns the PAT from carrying out actions that could endanger the safety of the bear spotted in Malè. According to what the animal rights association has learned, the animal was attracted to the town center by the presence of accessible waste, as there were no plantigrade-proof bins.
«A few days ago we asked the Autonomous Province of Trento to map the bins that have already been positioned in the area and we also urged the Province to provide certain and defined times for covering all the areas still without them. To date – Enpa declares – we have not yet had any feedback on this matter, so no one is able to say how many devices have been installed so far and in which area”.
It is clear that if the issue is not resolved at the root, i.e. eliminating access to every source of food, the problem will always be destined to recur; not only with bears but with any other wild species. «It is not a difficult concept to understand – continues the association – which is why we are surprised by the fact that local administrations have not yet taken action».
It is out of place to consider an animal that carries out the most natural behavior of all: the search for food, a confident animal. That animal, in fact, does not seek and certainly does not want contact with man; it simply wants to feed itself to continue living.
