“It has been learned from the local press that the cause relating to the pollution detected in recent days by Arpacal following the analyzes carried out on the water samples taken near the Tricoli beach and the Cemetery, would be due to “a malfunction of the sewage lifting pumps”. We also read that “the competent authorities are working to resolve the problem of the malfunction of the lifting pumps”.
This is what Congesi, the consortium that manages the purification service in the city, has announced.
“It is therefore necessary to specify – writes Congesi – that the city sewerage network does not present any malfunction, that it is monitored 24 hours a day, that a possible spill would have been visible on the beach, that routine checks are carried out on the networks daily by Con.Ge technicians .YES and that no definitive work is underway on the plants as erroneously reported in some newspapers”.
Congesi also specifies that “the sewage system facing the sea has only one overflow direct discharge into the sea which is remotely controlled and which also has a luminous alert visible to all.
With regard to the only episode which occurred on 8 June at the La Paranza lido which led, as per the photographs circulating on social media, to the spillage of sewage mixed with drinking water onto the beach, it is noted that the disruption to the network sewer system, due to its clogging due to the presence of rags and other coarse material, lasted thirty minutes so it is impossible that this could have affected in any way the aforementioned sampling which took place after 5 days”.
Congesi, at the end of the note, invites “the Authorities, each within their own competence, to carry out all the necessary checks (such as for example boats stationed in the stretch of seafront, bathing beaches, dredging works in the port, private homes along the coast , ships in transit, etc.) to resolve the problem identified.
The availability already given for the short ways to convene a technical table to evaluate and discuss the issue on its merits remains unchanged.”
