Macerata.- John McCourt, rector of the University of Macerata, will be elected Marchigiano of the Year for the international section, becoming the first international personality to receive this prestigious title.
The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 21 June at Finis Africae Resort in Senigallia. Together with the UNIMC rector, Consob commissioner Federico Cornelli will also be awarded. The initiative is promoted by the Marche Academy of Science and Culture and by the Marche Academy of the Year, who together choose to honor those who have brought the name and products of the Marche region to the forefront.
“I sincerely thank the jury for this prestigious recognition, which I share with the entire academic community and with the people of the Marche region who welcomed me with warmth and support. This award further strengthens the role of the University of Macerata as a source of culture and engine of growth within our region and my commitment to promoting the academic excellence and cultural values of the Marche on an international scale”, he comments McCourt.
The ceremony will be preceded by a technical-scientific debate on food safety moderated by Simone Domenico Aspriello (add contribution by Pamela Lattanzi). A special moment will be dedicated to the celebration of the 250 years of the Guardia di Finanza, with awards given to division general Alessandro Barbero and brigadier general Carlo Vita.
For the Marche Section, this year’s winners include the president of the court Edi Ragaglia, the commander of the Nas Alfredo Russo, the police commissioner of Fermo Luigi di Clemente and the neurosurgeon Roberto Trignani. For sport: the world sailing champion Paolo Bucciarelli. For entrepreneurship: Maurizio Vecchiola of Finproject, Fausto Pigini footwear entrepreneur, Stefano Taccaliti of the shirt factory, Ettore Verrucci for the industrialization of casual footwear for Louis Vuitton and the Master Chocolatier Paolo Mencarelli.
