the suburbs become a stage

Florence, 17 June 2024 – Transversal, free, capillary. Behind every festival, there is an idea of society, and the project “In Suburbia” – born on the initiative of the cultural association “Fa.RM – Factory of Stories and Memory” founded by Fiamma Negri and Giusi Salis – fits happily with the model of widespread and accessible culture proposed by the Municipality of Florence and the Metropolitan City.

The exhibition – scheduled from tomorrow until 15 September – passes through eleven different places including public gardens and courtyards of public housing, bringing eleven replicas divided into two sections, created in collaboration with Casa SpA: “In Suburbia Florence”, which involves the Quartieri 2,3,4,5 and Legambiente as part of the Fiorentina Estate, moves from Via Canova to Villa Pallini and Arrivabene, stops in the Piazzetta di Rocca Tedalda, runs along Via della Sala until reaching the center Gav, the Anconella Park and the Bibliotecanova Garden. The second part, entitled “In Suburbia Metropolis”leaves the borders of the capital to arrive in the ERP condominium of Campi Bisenzio and Scandicci and in Piazza delle Gualchiere in Fiesole.

The festival – the first entirely translated into sign language and integrated with short explanatory podcasts for the blind public – includes a double appointment with theatre: “Eisbolè, a geographical map that becomes theater”by and with Fiamma Negri and Giusi Salis, tells the geographical map through a plurality of perspectives and cultures, addressing the drama of wars and migrations with irony, feeling and conscience. “Life, if it’s not a dream, do you know what it is?”by and with Letizia Sacco, is inspired by two fairy tales by Lewis Carroll, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Beyond the Looking Glass”: as in a dream, an absurd world turned upside down comes to life through bizarre, mysterious and fascinating succession of stories, landscapes and characters that reveal all the inconsistencies and hypocrisies of being adults.
