Still tensions in the Cerialdo prison, the Osapp: “Agents find themselves facing a Dante’s circle”

The OSAPP (Autonomous Union Organization of the Penitentiary Police) raises another cry of alarm on the situation being experienced inside the Cerialdo prison in Cuneo. The Penitentiary Police officers of the prison – we read in a note – “they find themselves facing a real ‘Dante’s circle of hell’, with critical events that seriously jeopardize the security of the institute”: “In the last month, attacks on staff, scuffles, anti-conservative gestures and protests similar to those of a third world country have become commonplace. One particularly worrying episode saw a prisoner of foreign origin climbing onto the roofs of the facility, demanding to be transferred”.

The same scene was then repeated on June 12, when another inmate, after climbing the grates of the sports field, reached the central part of the institution, throwing tiles towards the officers who intervened. He continues the note: “Added to these critical issues are fights between prisoners, the discovery of mobile phones and homemade alcohol, as well as the abuse of psychotropic drugs and drugs, making the situation even more unmanageable. Despite everything, the Penitentiary Police staff demonstrate commendable courage and dedication, remaining on the front line to ensure safety and order within the facility. This emergency situation highlights the urgency of political intervention with measures and reforms of the penitentiary system. It is essential to recognize the sacrifice and self-sacrifice of the Penitentiary Police officers who, with great professionalism, face these serious critical issues on a daily basis. The hope is that the institutions to which these situations have been repeatedly reported will respond promptly and without hesitation beyond this alarming cry for help, to support and protect those who, every day, work for everyone’s safety“.
