Verona, new square dedicated to Mons. Giuseppe Turrini

From today in Verona there is one near the Capitular Library new small square dedicated to Mons. Giuseppe Turrini. It was thanks to him that the precious manuscripts housed in the Capitolare were saved from the bombing of 4 January 1945 which destroyed the building. Born in 1889, Turrini in fact held various important positions in the archives and was Prefect of the Capitolare Library.

In his memory in 2019 the city of Verona chose to dedicate a place to him, made official this morning with the inauguration ceremony by the councilor for Toponymy Federico Benini. Present were the president of the 1st Circumscription Lorenzo Dalai and Professor Gian Paolo Marchi, who commemorated the life of Mons. Turrini.

“Five years after the approval of this new toponym, the city now has a small square dedicated to Monsignor Giuseppe Turrini, particular prefect of Verona – declares the councilor Federico Benini –, to whom we owe the rescue during the Second World War of several important books present in the Capitolare, which was bombed and destroyed in 1945. This place, near the Capitolare, is therefore the most suitable to remember him and to commemorate the value of his work in defense of the cultural heritage of the city”.
