On Wednesday in the Regional Council, two documents presented by the Council Group of the Democratic Party and first signed by Councilor Manuela Bora will be discussed. A question to ask the reason for the failure to approve the resolution transposing the national guidelines on pharmacological abortion and a question to know if the Marche Region intends to open the doors of public clinics to anti-abortion associations.
The Acquaroli Council, four years later and with very poor justifications, carefully avoids implementing the national guidelines on the administration of the RU486 pill. “Pharmacological IVGs are less than half compared to the national average” – attacks Bora – “in the hospitals of Jesi, Fabriano, Civitanova, Villa Igea and Pesaro the abortion pill is not even available. In a historical moment in which there is no IVG emergency and requests actually continue to statistically decrease, in the Marche region performing an abortion, whether pharmacological or surgical, is becoming almost impossible. Last April 23, the Meloni Government opened the doors of public clinics to anti-abortion associations. The Dem Councilor comments thus: “We want to know and make it known whether, to the very serious situation experienced by the regional health system, women who decide to terminate a pregnancy will also have to add the pressures and moral judgments of these associations within the public clinics .”
“The fight against the birth rate – concludes the Dem Councilor – is not achieved by compressing women’s freedom of choice, but rather by deploying resources in a widespread and structural way to support families and facilitate the reconciliation of life and work: nurseries, nurseries , social and educational services to guarantee job placement opportunities for parents, and in particular mothers, in terms of dignity and security.”
Lusia Cecarini, regional representative of the women of the Democratic Party, underlines: “In addition to the failure to implement the guidelines on the administration of the RU486 pill, there has been a progressive dismantling of the services offered by the clinics. The retired staff have not been replaced and there is a lack of adequate machinery and equipment. It is necessary to refinance and strengthen this important service for the protection of women’s health. The clinics represent a public space for prevention and education, a real local social support. Together with the Regional Secretary Chantal Bomprezzi, the Democratic Party of the Marche supports the women and associations who today ask the Acquaroli council to guarantee access to voluntary termination of pregnancy that is safe and respectful of the dignity of women”.
