Last Thursday a fatal accident occurred in Via Dorsale and yesterday, a few meters away from that place, another quite serious one occurred and these are certainly not the only accidents that have hit an area densely frequented by people in recent years. cars and heavy vehicles.
It may be a coincidence, perhaps sometimes it also depends on distracted or even unconscious drivers, but it is obvious that on the merits a reflection must be opened on road safety, which in my opinion, not only in this area, but throughout the entire Massa area, it needs to be revisited, I would even say urgently. In fact, the only Urban Traffic Plan dates back many years ago and none of the municipal administrations of Massa that have followed one another over time have provided for a new draft of it, adapting it to new and current needs, especially in terms of safety. .
I return to the issue concerning Via Dorsale-Via Massa Avenza to highlight some critical issues that have existed for years, but have never been overcome, such as the Via Ricortola-Via Massa Avenza intersection, considered very dangerous, because it has no roundabout and in the total absence of control tools road, which induce motorists to carry out a very dangerous maneuver to arrive directly in via Dorsale. These two roads, with a perpetually ruined road surface, are long-distance and cars continually whiz by at high speed. There are no traffic lights, flashing lights and above all speed cameras, which are often installed in safer zones and areas only to raise municipal funds, rather than using them where there really is a safety problem for public safety.
I would like to point out that at the intersection of via Massa Avenza-via Dorsale, a few meters from the Mascalzone restaurant and in front of the Soul Cafè restaurant and bar, every day cars whiz by and enter against traffic, evidently due to insufficient signage.
This is also a very dangerous situation, in which those responsible for traffic control should intervene to modify the road system, but often in public administrations technicians who are not experts in this matter are used and this gives rise to different interpretations with the risk that the choices of intervention are not entirely effective and in some cases completely wrong.
See in this regard the new sidewalks that run along via Dorsale-via Massa Avenza, direction Carrefour -Avenza, which run in front of the Fire Brigade barracks. They were built on the mountain side, when the activities and homes are all on the sea side; this choice did nothing but increase the danger for pedestrians forced to cross the road.
For the above, I invite the President of the Province and the Mayor of Massa to discuss to start a technical path that leads to the drafting of a New Traffic Plan and in the meantime to intervene to secure the entire area that has seen in a few days two serious accidents.
