G7, this is how Borgo Egnazia showed Puglia to the world

FASANO – The leaders who animated the G7 in Puglia left on Saturday morning. Their delegations instead vacated the rooms, some of which had been transformed into real offices, only yesterday morning. The whole security bandwagon, which led almost 5,000 people including police officers, secret services, law enforcement task forces, Red Cross, Civil Protection, etc. to operate in the Fasano area, began yesterday to leave the workstations located along the protected routes to return to their respective work locations. The naval units of the US Sixth Fleet, deployed for the occasion in the stretch of sea in front of Savelletri, also set sail again after President Biden’s departure. Same thing for the Italian Navy destroyer Andrea Doria.

And while the spotlight of the international media is still focused on Borgo Egnazia, between praise and some sterile controversy, the activities here have never stopped between “check out” operations and general cleaning. An agreement that contains declarations of principle on cooperation in all areas of defence, but also of the economy and intelligence. Marisa Melpignano, today among other things president of the San Domenico Foundation, talks exclusively to the «Gazzetta» about the sensations of these last hectic days of work. A constant and discreet presence of her, to respond to the needs of her guests at all times.

Let’s try to take stock. What did this event mean to you in a place that you literally saw come to light. What did it mean for her family to have the eyes of the world upon them?

«Twenty-seven years ago, when I decided to transform my house into a hotel, as much as I hoped to be successful, that is to welcome my guests and make them feel good, I never, ever imagined I would arrive at an event like this which we lived. I’ve been thinking a lot about my husband Sergio these days. When he decided to invest here, to build the golf course, he had a vision, or rather an intuition that has proven successful over the years. But I don’t think he would ever have thought that his “creature” could really be at the center of the world. It was and will remain an unforgettable event for all of us”…
