a search for 21 missing people was simulated –

An important joint exercise took place on Sunday 16 June between the Fire Brigade, Alpine and Speleological Rescue and Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza, where the three bodies collaborated in a search for 21 people missing on Mount Durmont, in the municipality of Tre Ville .

Around 80 people were involved, including extras, rescuers from the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Stations Val Rendena Busa di Tione and Giudicarie Esterna, as well as members of the Technical Research Group, specialized in the coordination of missing search events, of the Fire Brigade of Giudicarie District – i.e. the bodies of Montagne, organizer of the maneuver, Preore, Ragoli, Zuclo Bolbeno, Spiazzo, Vigo Darè and Bleggio Superiore – and of the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza, stationed in Tione. The support of Nu.Vol.A is also fundamental.

The exercise involved the search for a group of 21 people who, having left the colony in the Montagne area for an excursion to the Durmont peak, arrived at the top but, surprised by a strong storm, on the way back they got divided and got lost in many small groups. Once the request for help arrived, the rescuers organized an operations center at Maso Colombin in Montagne, from which the various teams that went out into the area to search forest roads and paths were coordinated. In a few hours, land searches led to the discovery of twenty out of twenty-one people. At that point, via the drone supplied by the Vigo Fire Brigade, the last missing person was also identified, under the Durmont peak, at the base of a rock face, and reached by the Alpine Rescue operators. Since he was lifeless, the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza took over, in its function as Judicial Police, for the necessary investigations in situations of this type. Once the authorization for the recovery of the body was received, the Alpine Rescue equipped anchors to lower the stretcher on particularly steep and impervious terrain up to the path. From there, together with the Fire Brigade, the stretcher was transported downstream. The simulation ended with a debriefing, an activity that is done regularly in interventions like this, where the operators involved in the research have the opportunity to analyze what worked and what needs to be improved.

The exercise was carried out, in particular, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between different bodies, often called to intervene in a synergistic way, as well as practicing those rescue operations which can be very long and complex such as the search for missing people , or where it is necessary to manage the discovery of a deceased person. In fact, some mountain hunters were also involved, thanks to their knowledge of the area, and the Forestry Corps, which assisted in implementing the anti-bear protocol.

Finally, we would like to thank Nu.Vol.A for their support in organizing the lunch.
