From Latina to the G7, Sunak’s Panda ride

The British Prime Minister’s face is amused. The spontaneous smile. All we need is the honk. «The pandino always has its charm», one might think. On the occasion of the G7 which took place in Borgo Egnazia in the province of Brindisi, on 13 June the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak got into the glorious and timeless small car made by Fiat, strictly electric and which had a particular feature: it was registered as Latina. Yes: Lt 427 are the first three numbers.

But what history does this Fiat Panda have? It had been registered by the Latina Civil Motorization in June 1989. The “life” of the vehicle in which one of the most powerful men on Earth rode began in Ponza where it was purchased more than 30 years ago. It contains everything: an example of Italian design, a vintage and elegant flavour. The arrival on the resort’s green carpet was for the parachutists’ performance. The Canadian Prime Minister also got into another Fiat Panda which preceded Sunak’s but the license plate cannot be seen from the images. «It was a beautiful car – says one of the owners – they were built for Ponza, there were few examples in all of Italy: there must have been nine or ten, that was a limited edition and it was called Panda Moretti. It’s one of the very few models that still exist.” It is a “little beach”, as it is called in jargon, used on islands in sea areas, or later in resorts to transport tourists. In this case it has a sliding roof and as you can see in the videos it is well maintained. In the images circulating on the web, the car arrives on the lawn and Premier Giorgia Meloni is there to welcome the world leaders.

There were many owners: some in Ponza and then for two years also a woman resident in Ceprano in the province of Frosinone.
Finally, the Fiat Panda was purchased by a man resident in the province of Bari and subsequently the car, which always had the same license plate, ended up with a company that manages the accommodation facility in Fasano. And so at a certain point a Latina-branded Panda arrives at the G7. Wonderful.
