Last June 11, the Municipality received a note from the Binario Blu company to proceed with the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding between Palazzo Sisto and the company for another six months and with the intention, at the next hearing relating to the dispute for a part of the Piazza del Popolo area, to request a postponement of the same hearing to the Court of Appeal of Genoa.
The dispute arose in 2017, before the Court of Savona, promoted by Binario Blu which challenged the Municipality’s “untitled occupation of the area”. The Court of Savona, with sentence no. 267/2020, recognized that an easement for public use had been created in favor of the Municipality on the areas in question. The company had appealed to the Genoa Court of Appeal and the dispute is still ongoing.
In the meantime, though. The Russo administration initiated discussions with Binario Bluo and the memorandum of understanding was reached, signed last December, which is about to expire. The two parties decided on a six-month extension of the protocol which provided for a period of time to verify whether, from an urban, building, hydraulic and economic point of view, the idea of creating an Event Hall for indoor competitions, concerts or conferences was sustainable.
The agreement also contemplates two works in the short term: the construction of the works to widen the bed of the Letimbro from the Santa Rita bridge and the use of a portion of the dirt area adjacent to the court to temporarily expand the parking lot in Piazza del Popolo.
