The City Council approved the motion that commits the Municipality of Cerignola to establishing the municipal minimum wage, signed by the city councilors Francesco Sorbo and Tommaso Sgarro. The provision, shared by the majority and the municipal administration, provides that no worker will have to earn less than 9 euros an hour in contracts in which the Municipality of Cerignola will be the contracting authority.
“This motion pushes us to adopt a provision, which within the limits of what administrative action can be, anticipates a European directive, which Italy too sooner or later will have to deal with. I have great satisfaction with the objective achieved and I thank the entire majority, and councilor Sgarro, for having supported and shared the proposal.” The comment of the city councilor Francesco Sorbo.
“I am satisfied first of all because the city council has shown sensitivity and sharing in the face of a theme present in our Constitution: work is the cornerstone of our country, but it must be fair and dignified. It is a transversal step, on which we cannot be divided and our meeting demonstrated this with a fruitful collaboration to achieve a historic result for our city. I thank councilor Sorbo and councilor Sgarro for having strongly wanted this measure.” Mayor Bonito underlined at the end of the meeting
sitting.
