Both teams already had qualification for the i play-offs of the Serie B1 national championshipbut al Tennis Club Cagliari they are used to leaving nothing to chance. Thus, even on the seventh and final day both the women’s and men’s teams achieved further success, closing the first phase in style. The girls led by Carla Lucero And Bugnon candle they needed just one point to legitimize first place and instead they achieved three, beating their direct competitors 3-1 in Monte UrpinuAta Battisti of Trento. Immediately ahead thanks to the success of the “nursery” Barbara Dessolis against the young woman Naomi Maines (6-4 6-4), the Sardinians were caught up again by the winning comeback of Deborah Churchpassed 5-7 6-3 6-1 against Gabriela Ce. But from then on it was Cagliari’s dominion again: the Greek team Eleni Christofi she made it 2-1 by defeating the German 6-2 6-4 Antonia Lottner, and subsequently the Dessolis/Ce doubles closed the score, beating the Chiesa/Odorizzi duo 6-3 6-4. By virtue of the first place finish in group 2, the Cagliaritans have guaranteed themselves the possibility of fight for promotion to Serie A2 starting directly from the decisive round of the play-offs. Between 30 June (away) and 7 July (at home) they will challenge the winner of the duel which on 23 June will pit a second and third place finisher from the other two groups against each other.

The men’s team led by Martin Vassallo Arguello And Stefano Mocci instead, he had the delicate task of defending second place in Group 5 in the away match in Abruzzo Lanciano Tennis Club (province of Chieti): a mission completed with a 4-2 success essentially resolved already in the singles. Because in the three matches played (while the fourth was not played due to Alberto Sanna’s injury) there were just as many victories for the visiting team, scored by Nicola Porcu (6-1 6-2 to Andrea Rossi Principe), Bruno Pujol Navarro (6-3 6-2 to Marco Seccia) e Andrea Picchione (6-3 6-1 to Davide Guerra). However, the subsequent doubles were not played: each team received one point, for the final 4-2. The Cagliari Tennis Club will return to the court on Sunday 23 June – on the lucky clay of Mount Urpinu – for the first round of the play-offswith a one-way formula: the opponent (to be drawn) is one of the third-placed teams from the other groups.

But that’s not all, because in the next two Sundays the Tennis Club Cagliari will also be involved in two other play-offs, those of the national phase of the Serie C championship. The men’s team, one of the two promises of Sardinia in the final draw, will play for promotion to Serie B2 against the Michele Montani Tennis Academy of Rome, with the first leg in the capital (23 June) and the return match in Sardinia (30 June). The girls, winners of the single regional group, will compete for promotion against their rivals Piancastagnaio Tennis Club (province of Siena), with the first match at home and the second in Tuscany.
