Cus Torino promoted to men’s B1

Until a few seasons ago tennis for the CUS Turin it did not represent one of the most important expressions of the field, even if in terms of structures the reality was already capable of expressing excellent potential.
The real competitive journey of the two top teams, the men’s and the women’s, started almost like a game and, thanks to the commitment of the management, of the head of the tennis section, Prof. Enrico Macii he was born in brother Albertoof the national master FITP Andrea Saggiona point of reference for the tennis school and wheelchair tennis by CUS Torino, of the National Coach Vincenzo Santoleri (competitive manager), the sponsors and above all the players, it quickly became a serious matter. Last year the boys got promoted from Serie C to B2 and last Sunday, within friendly walls, they got promoted from B2 to B1 at the first attempt.

The objectives at the beginning of the season, also due to the iron group in which the Turin team was placed, were those linked to maintaining the category. The field instead demonstrated, Sunday after Sunday, that much more could be done and the great result arrived in the photo finish.
The “regular season”, which by regulation directly promotes only the first of the group, saw the team close with four victories and two draws at 14 points, the same ones recorded by the youngsters of the Monviso Sporting Club of Grugliasco, behind the Cussini with one victory less (27 to 26).

A great solidity from the Cus group who earned their ticket to the higher category by winning 4-2 at home last Sunday against the Cuneo Country Club. The double success in the doubles was decisive, with the names of Ortenzi and Bianchi, who scored in the tie-break match 10-3 against Casciola and Becchis, and Roggero and Nicoletti, who defeated the rivals of the Cuneo club, Gola and Delfino . The score stopped at 2-2 at the end of the singles, with victories for Cus Torino of Tommaso Roggero and Nicolas Bianchi: «Four promotions in four years. D3, D1, C, B2. Without forgetting the girls, still in the running for promotion to Serie C. Together with my brother Alberto we are promoting this model which combines competitive sport and university study; as university professors this matter is very close to our hearts, and at Cus we have found the ideal environment to develop it and make it grow. Therefore, heartfelt thanks to the President Riccardo D’Elicio and to all the Cus staff for believing in this project, to the sponsors, Iren and Links, who helped us carry it forward, to the technician Enzo Santoleri for his expertise in technical guidance of the teams. Now we also want to grow in the youth sector, to give life and continuity to what we are doing. From September, we start again».

Great satisfaction also from the President of Cus Torino, Riccardo D’Elicio: «A great success – he has declared – fruit of planning and passion. Even in tennis we have become a significant reality in perfect synergy with what we are doing in other sports. We want the combination between School and Sport to be increasingly closer and more attractive for students. The construction of a complete entity cannot ignore the values that sport teaches and we want that precisely in the name of this assonance Turin increasingly becomes a hub in which student-athletes want to continue to get involved. We give them this opportunity thanks to the many years of experience acquired in the field and the structures we can make available to them. In the coming years we will aim to become very active also in the tennis school sector, bringing more and more children closer to the world of the racket, with initiatives aimed at the formation of an internal nursery capable of expressing our talents of tomorrow, on the playing field and in the context of school and university education. A great challenge that I already consider successful and highly motivating today».
