After 2009 earthquake, the structure was affected by consolidation works completed at the end of 2018. The cinema will however change its skin, adapting to the innovations and changes of the last 12 years: there will no longer be a single hall, but will become 4. The historic 348-seat hall will be renovated, another two will be used for film screenings, with 72 seats each, and one with 64 seats for theatrical performances and other types of shows. This is what was learned from the consequent determination 2023 Services Conference; the Municipality of L’Aquila will now have to accept some prescriptions received from the Superintendence, disability manager and Fire Brigade. With the works of the first lot – completed in 2018 – the Cinema Massimo was consolidated and made safe after the damage suffered by the destructive fury of the earthquake. The work on the second lot, which cost around 4 million euros, presented problems that lasted for years.
