The 66-year-old man from Lanuvio was spending a day at the seaside on a stretch of free beach in the Ponente area. After eating, together with his partner, who was a few years younger, he dove in. The couple soon found themselves in difficulty. The currents are too strong.
They couldn’t get back to shore and started floundering. The lifeguards from the nearby “Saint Tropez” establishment intervened and rescued the couple and led the couple to the shore.
Once the alarm was raised, the 118 and Port Authority personnel also arrived on the beach. But for the 66-year-old, perhaps also due to illness or congestion, there was nothing that could be done. Attempts to resuscitate him were useless.
