Friday 14 June marked the beginning of the second edition of the “Daniel Popan” memorial in San Pietro a Maida
The five-a-side football tournament, organized by the SPM Futurist Committee with the support of numerous volunteers and sponsors, renews the memory of Daniel, who tragically passed away at work in November 2020 together with his colleague Vito Iellamo. This sporting event was born from Daniel’s great passion for football and celebrates values such as solidarity and fair competition.
The evening was inaugurated with a ceremony full of emotions: a touching monologue opened the event, followed by the performance of Iolanda Isabella who sang “La rondine” by Mango.
Subsequently, a video was shown that connected this edition with the previous one, accompanied by the usual institutional greetings.
After a minute of silence, the match between “K11 Le Aquile” and “Le Antiche Mura” kicked off the tournament. The match was enthralling, with “K11 Le Aquile” prevailing 5 to 4, thanks to a hat-trick from Alessio Carchedi, named MVP.
The match was refereed by Francesco Torcasio of the CSI, an organization responsible for also directing the next matches of the tournament.
The evening was enriched by the large participation of the community of San Pietro in Maida and surrounding areas, who wanted to pay homage to Daniel, a man known for his kindness and cheerfulness. Events like this not only celebrate life, precious and fleeting, but also enhance its most vigorous and supportive aspects, perfectly represented by sport.
