Is called I Want the Moon the artistic project of the artist from Carpi Luca Ballestra, born in 1989, who elaborates and explores, between physical and digital art, the concept of space. His works are works of art, but they also express a strong concept of design, and become part of our daily life to inspire us to achieve our personal dream.

Luca, how did your passion for art begin and what technique do you use to create your works?

“My passion for art began since I was a child as a form of expression, and continues today as a reflection of the inner journey, a symbol of personal growth and discovery. I mainly work with mortar, enamels and acrylics to create a series of material moons on circular canvases. The inspiration comes from poor materials and tends towards three-dimensionality”.

Over the years Luca Ballestra’s moons have been exhibited in Italy and New York. Some significant exhibitions have made it possible to set up galactic spaces. In 2019 the unique work Good Old of the series I Want the Moon was chosen for the scenography of Pandora Italia jewels. Later, in 2021 Ballestra collaborated with Huawei for the project Art in your Pocket, in which some unique works were chosen for the well-known brand’s telephone devices, transforming the Moons into interchangeable wallpapers. During the Milan Design Week 2024the artist originally from the city of Pio created the installation I Want the Moon for the MusAB Astronomical Museum of Brera, in which the moon was captured inside a room, almost reminiscent of an enormous telescope of which the museum is the custodian, transporting visitors on a journey through the lunar nuances. Finally, recently, he was nominated for the Under 35 award GiovanArte 2024 in Piacenza with a suggestive moon to immerse us in a magical world.

What message do you want to convey with your material moons?

“Through my material works I wish to make art accessible to everyone, breaking down barriers and stimulating interest in artistic culture. My dedication to the moon is not only an artistic statement, but also an invitation to look beyond, to explore the universe around us and to dream big. His passion for art began as a child as a form of expression and continues today as a reflection of the inner journey, a symbol of personal growth and discovery. Like the moon going through phases to reach its fullness, so we too go through moments of growth, introspection and development. The path to personal fulfillment is made of slow and constant steps, commitment and patience. Observing the moon reminds us that each phase has its purpose, each moment is precious for our intellectual and personal development. We must not rush, but we must trust the process. Every day is an opportunity to grow, to learn and to get closer to our dreams.”
