On Monday 17 June in Caserta the appointment is at the Casa del Sociale “Mamadou Sy” in the courtyard of the Ex Onmi in Viale Beneduce in Caserta. From 6.30pm, readings for children with Silvia Graziosi and Cinzia Crisci, physics laboratory with Spam Caserta, the rarities fair and the debate on asylum and reception. At 9.00 pm, for the first time in Caserta, the free screening of the film “MUR” by Kasia Smutniak, on what is happening on the borders of Poland and Belarus after the conflict in Ukraine.
In the week in which World Refugee Day falls, we meet in this place, in this social space which represents many things, including certainly a bridge between different cultures.
The opening of the Casa del Sociale at Ex Onmi is a process that the city has been waiting for for a long time. In the next few hours, the Campania Region will make the decree of the new financing for the renovation of the property owned by the Municipality of Caserta entrusted to the Ex Canapificio Social Center and a network of 30 associations after the closure of the Canapificio in 2019.
The regional funding allocated last March could not be used due to deadlines: when it comes to funding, respecting deadlines is in fact essential and unfortunately a lot of time has passed so far. Therefore, we expect rapid, shared and transparent times from both the Region and the Municipality in the next few days for the necessary documents for the works: financing, agreement between the Municipality and the Region and the start of the tender to entrust the renovation work.
Faced with the worrying judicial investigations that have emerged in Caserta in recent days, it is essential that the paths of regeneration and shared management of public spaces, therefore paths of democracy and participation such as this one of the Casa del Sociale “Mamadou Sy”, are relaunched with even more strength. These places are in fact essential for reconstructing paths of proximity and protection of rights.
