After years of absence due to the pandemic, the Sushi Guide of Gambero Rosso which rewards the best places offering oriental cuisine specialties with three chopsticks. In the edition 2025 recently unveiled, there are 32 excellences that offer the best sushi proposals throughout Italy: the majority are concentrated in Milan, which has always been a city open to international influences and today the capital of Japanese cuisine in our country and one of the first cities to have welcomed the first restaurants. The Veneto with his eleven signs, scattered throughout the territory, are testimony to how this region has also welcomed sushi as an integral part of its gastronomic scene: the combination of fresh ingredients, the influence of tourism and the culinary curiosity of the residents have created an environment where sushi can thrive alongside traditional Venetian dishes. Let’s see what they are and where to find them.

Padua

Sushi Su in Padua in via Giordano Bruno 42, it ranges from uramaki with crab, tempura with lobster and then veers towards refined carpaccio (such as the one with tuna and foie gras escalope or that of scampi with caviar), or towards specialties such as caramelised fish. For meat lovers, Wagyu Kobe, both in tartare and steak form.

Jadore Sushi Restaurant in Cittadella in via Riva del Grappa 24 it is located close to the medieval city walls with a charming terrace. Hana-Kaze Sushi Lounge, in Mestre on the Riviera XX September 46, it is managed by Luca Jang and Yang Li, who have been in Italy all their lives and friends since they attended the hotel institute in Castelfranco Veneto. Refined, beautiful sushi, with attention to presentation, from nigiri to gunkan. The attention to the product is centered on local fish, in a perfect meeting between the Lagoon and Japan.

Itaria, in Mestre in via Sarpi 22, it has a cuisine that blends authentic Japanese cuisine with the use of raw materials from the Veneto and Italian territory. Don’t miss the raw, traditional, vegetarian and cooked sushi, along with the original uramaki.

Basara in Venice in Calle Lungo San Barnaba 2687, it bears the name of the rebellious samurai, just as the menu is rebellious and ranges between classic proposals and original creations, starting with the Pasticcino, a delicious unique piece, a soft cream puff filled with tuna or salmon, avocado with lobster au gratin or sea bass with scallops and jalapeno.

Mirai in Venice Cannaregio in Lista di Spagna 227 was, in 2002, the first sushi bar to open in the city. Among the house creations are the Mirai salad (seaweed salad with raw prawn and crab) and the vegetarian options (for example uramaki with vegetables or fruit), including a colorful exotic salad.

Treviso
