Skeletal and injured: 10 hunting dogs in pitiful conditions seized in Livorno

Animal abuse in Livorno, where zookeepers seized 10 hunting dogs and reported the owner also for illegal management of dangerous waste. The animals are now safe at the municipal shelter and are looking for a home

Another case of animal abuse recorded in Italy. We are in Livorno, Tuscany, where two months of investigations have led to the discovery of 10 skinny hunting dogs, kept in deplorable conditions outside a workshop shed.

Skeletal, with wounds on their body, forced to live among excrement and dangerous waste. This is how zoophile guards from Oipa, the International Animal Protection Organization (Oipa), found them.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the forestry Carabinieri and ended with the seizure of the animals. Giuliano Morelli, coordinator of the Oipa zoophile guards of Livorno and its province, recounts the intervention:

We found these poor dogs malnourished, with untreated wounds on their bodies, as also noted by the veterinary doctor who spoke with us. They all did not have health records or vaccinations and, at the time of the operation, one of them was carrying a killed and partly eaten rat into the kennel”

The zookeepers also noted a illicit management of harmful toxic waste by the workshop owner. The subject was also reported for animal cruelty.

The dogs have been transferred to the municipal kennel of Livorno, but can already be entrusted on a temporary basis pending the legal process.

Anyone who wishes to welcome them or have more information about them can contact the number 3923414131 or write an email to [email protected].

Oipa volunteers appeal to all citizens, reminding them of the importance of reporting situations of degradation or alleged mistreatment to the groups active in the area. Reporting means helping animals, giving them a concrete possibility of redemption.
