‘Open Gasometer’ kicks off in Ostiense, guided tours with FAI

Eni inaugurates the collaboration with the FAI (Italian Environment Fund) by opening the doors of the property site that hosts the Rome Ostiense Gazometer to the public and does so with 5 Sunday appointments from June to November 2024: a unique opportunity to enter in the heart of the industrial site and delve into its past, present and future. The Italian Environment Fund supports Eni in guided tours. With this initiative, Eni continues along the path of valorising the urban regeneration process of an area of over 12 hectares, which in recent years has seen the transformation of a place with an industrial vocation – the former Officina San Paolo (original name of the area of the Gazometro Ostiense) used in the early twentieth century for the production and storage of gas for the lighting of Rome – in a hub of sustainable technological innovation.

The Eni Gazometro Complex, which hosts the innovation district Road – Rome Advanced District, Joule – the Eni Business School, Zero – the clean-tech accelerator of the National Innovation Fund and “Eni 2050 Lab” – the new dedicated hub to the cutting-edge technologies of the company’s research and development area, today represents, in line with the company’s objectives and strategies, one of the most significant urban transformations underway in the Ostiense district. During the guided tours, not only will the history of the area and the operation of the plant in the last century be retraced, but the environmental redevelopment project carried out by Eni and the experimental activities launched in the scientific, social and cultural, such as the recent collaboration with Spazio Taverna which led to the creation of the exhibition “Contemporary Energies, first exhibition of 17 young emerging artists as part of the “Arte al Gazometro” exhibition.

In addition to the opening days, the site will also be visitable during major events such as Videocittà – the Festival of Vision (from 5 to 7 July) and Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition (from 25 to 27 October). The “Open Gasometer” initiative will extend throughout 2024 for a total of 5 extraordinary openings, with special guided tours open to all and free. It is possible to book your visit through the dedicated platform: enigazometro.it

In fact, Eni, an integrated energy company, a protagonist in the energy security scenario, firmly believes in the role of innovation capable of accelerating the transition towards increasingly sustainable energy, investing in research and development of technologies capable of supporting the evolution of the sector by facilitating meetings and collaboration between the main innovation players in the quadrant: from Roma Tre University to the Talent Garden, from Naba to the main business incubators and accelerators.

Strengthened by the initiative that in the past led to the valorization of the Saline Conti Vecchi in the Assemini area (just outside Cagliari) in Sardinia, the collaboration with the FAI – Fund for the Italian Environment since 1975 has been renewed today, committed to the protection and valorisation of the Italian historical, artistic and landscape heritage, to promote knowledge of the Gazometer and its value for the history of the city. To this end, Eni makes a place of extraordinary beauty accessible, making use of Fai’s experience to enhance the architectural and archaeological heritage represented by the Gazometro and the surrounding factories. The site, in fact, symbol of the brief but significant industrial interlude of the city of Rome, was invested in the past with an important energy production function and now becomes the protagonist of an urban regeneration in the name of innovation and sustainability.
