Palermo, Di Dio “‘Ecological Acchianata’ important ethical message”

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The new edition of the “Acchianata Ecologica” organized by Confcommercio Palermo ends with a very positive outcome, in the year in which the organization celebrates 80 years since its establishment, which started shortly after 9am from the slopes of Monte Pellegrino and ended after approximately 3.7 kilometers of climbs at the Sanctuary where Don Natale Fiorentino gave the blessing to the participants. “It is an event in which I strongly believe for the strong ethical and business culture messages it brings with it and because it brings into play a varied system of partners who represent not only the business world but the entire community – says the president of Confcommercio , Patrizia Di Dio -. We entrepreneurs, each for our own part, are committed to the challenge of environmental sustainability and respect for the common good. These are themes dear to Confcommercio, which launched the ‘ImprendiGreen’ project a few years ago Our companies intend to become responsible protagonists of the ecological transition process. It is the best way to celebrate our 80-year history. We have involved young people, entire families and a significant portion of civil society in this ecological ‘pilgrimage’ aimed at promoting respect. of the places of our daily life – continues Di Dio -.

We have set a good example by collecting, as volunteers and ‘guardians’, the waste abandoned along the road, a sign of the carelessness of many and of the degradation in which even a highly symbolic place such as the old staircase leading to the Sanctuary dedicated to patron saint of Palermo. The beauty of our city depends on the contribution of each of us. Environmental sustainability cannot be limited to being a duty towards the planet but also a strategic choice for companies and a lever of economic value as well as the collective heritage of the community. This is our way of doing business, based on the culture of doing and doing well, which produces added value”, he concludes. “We can define it as a cultural, sporting and social event – adds the deputy vice-president of Confcommercio, Fabio Gioia – and the good participation is the confirmation of how certain issues are felt by an important segment of civil society. The objective is that attention to the environment is not limited to just one day a year but that it becomes daily practice for an ever-increasing number of people”. Among the associations in the front row is also Plastic Free which has mobilized the massive army of volunteers from the association. “Whether they are ancient mountain paths, beaches, coasts or parks – says Dario Scalia, president of Confcommercio youth and Palermo representative for Plastic free – we are there, with the enthusiasm and conviction that should be reserved for ecological issues that concern us closely”. Enthusiasm shared by Antonio Lo Coco, president of the Industrial Union of Confcommercio and manager of Blu Ocean of Casteldaccia which operates in the sector of processing and marketing of fish. “We have donated hundreds of reusable ecological water bottles endlessly. We are thus giving a signal of great attention to the protection of life in the seas and oceans which suffer very serious damage due to approximately 8,000 tonnes of plastic ending up in marine waters per year. Microplastics, then, represent a silent but insidious threat: they enter the food chain, creating harmful effects on marine fauna and flora and also on human health”. The “Acchianata Ecologica”, included in the calendar of celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Festino, received the patronage of the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Palermo, the University, the Office for Social Pastoral and Labor of the Archdiocese and the regional Civil Protection.
