On the occasion of the Navy Festival, the “Cigala Fulgosi” group from Piacenza of the National Association of Sailors of Italy – chaired by Fabio Carella – wanted to pay homage to the missing sailors with a visit to the Monument to the Fallen of the Sea in Viale Beverora.

Representing the municipal administration, councilor Salvatore Scafuto took part in the commemoration and underlined how Piacenza, despite being a city far from the coasts, through the War Memorial displays “an indissoluble bond with the Navy and with all those who they served and continue to serve on our ships: it is a sign of gratitude towards the fallen and a tribute to their memory, which remains alive in our hearts”. “We pay homage to these heroes – he added –, remembering their sacrifices and recognizing the importance of their service. This monument also reminds us of the value of peace and freedom, precious goods for which these men and women fought. Together, we renew our commitment to support and honor the memory of the fallen, so that their sacrifice is never forgotten. May this place continue to be a beacon of memory and an invitation for future generations to reflect on the meaning of duty and service to our country.”

Also present at the ceremony – together with the representatives of the Marinai d’Italia association – were the Carabinieri lieutenant Francesco Giovine, the chief commissioner Riccardo Esposito, the Red Cross nurse Silvana Mima, Stefano Mezzadri of the Alpini Group of Piacenza and Marilena Massarini, representing the Institute Blue Ribbon.
