You can no longer find waiters: there is room for migrants in Abruzzo

PESCARA – A first experimental response arrives to the persistent difficulty in finding personnel in the catering sector in Abruzzo: a few days before the start of the summer season, training activities promoted by an unprecedented alliance between Confesercenti, the its training institution Cescot Abruzzo, accredited by the Region, and the community of the Daughters of the Love of Jesus and Mary, which through the social cooperative Fagem welcomes migrants in the village of Brecciarola. Ten of these guests are attending the course which will allow them to obtain three units of competence which contribute to the acquisition of the regional qualification of Waiter, bar and banqueting activities.

These are people between 20 and 38 years old, coming from Cameroon, Bangladesh, Benin, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso and Tunisia. At the end of the 123-hour course, they will be able to be employed in tasks that include cleaning, maintenance and tidying up the spaces, setting up and organizing the room and serving food and drinks. «A test with a strong symbolic and operational value, which can give an interesting response to the expectations of several subjects – comments Confesercenti – The project is called HospItaly because it has a dual objective: welcoming migrants through a training course, which can become a driving force for inclusion, and respond to the needs of companies to find staff in the catering and food production sector”.
