Regional Campania, duel over the centre-right candidate

There are those who count the vote for parties and those who count the vote for candidates. There are those who argue that in the regions governed by the centre-left it is up to the relative majority party to indicate the candidate for president and those who say that it needs to be discussed within the coalition. Some are aiming for a repeat of the government formation and some want to try to broaden the front of the moderates. Here are the different visions proposed by Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia for the next Regionals in Campania. The centre-right’s race for Palazzo Santa Lucia is launched. But who will lead the team? Forza Italia or Brothers of Italy? The challenge is open.

The appeal

The most active party is certainly Forza Italia. The regional coordinator Fulvio Martusciello, fresh from the almost 100 thousand preferences obtained in the South which reconfirmed him in the European Parliament, even in recent days he has reconfirmed his desire to take the field himself. First during an event in Benevento in which he reiterated: «I feel the responsibility of the 100 thousand is strong on me. I offer my availability to the coalition.” Then yesterday he launched his thesis on the interpretation of the European vote: «It was like the primaries. Each of the possible presidential candidates weighed in on a candidate. The result seems very clear to me.” Translation from “politician”: the candidate with the most votes in the European elections, Martusciello himself, is the candidate for the presidency of the Region. But it is not the only issue on which Forza Italia insists. For the Azzurri, focusing on Fi means giving voters a moderate candidate who will allow the coalition to be more attractive even in the center. The senator also supports it Franco Silvestro: «We need to bring together all the moderate forces. Open a line of dialogue with those centrist forces that can be seen in our values and ideas. Forza Italia can and must act as a driving force.” Proposals that will be reiterated next week in a public event in which the first candidates for the Regional elections will also be presented, including the mayor of Casalnuovo Massimo Pelliccia and the doctor Giuseppe Noschese. Event in which the deputy prime minister and party secretary Antonio Tajani should also participate. Meanwhile, Martusciello also launches a proposal to the allies: «Immediately organize a control room for the center-right program. Each party should nominate one or more trusted experts to talk about projects and concrete things that Campania needs, about real problems and solutions.”

The vision

As mentioned, however, the vision of Fratelli d’Italia is different from that of the Azzurri. The reading of the vote for candidate preferences is reversed by looking at the votes for the party. «Were the European primaries the primaries? And Forza Italia lost them, it arrived behind Fratelli d’Italia”, he says Edmondo Cirielli. The Salerno exponent of Giorgia Meloni’s party goes into detail: «Martusciello would be a good candidate, like many others, neither better nor worse, within the Brothers of Italy. Including myself, who if I am called to take on this responsibility I will be ready to do so – reasons Cirielli – The point is that the indication of the candidate is up to Fdi”. Cirielli also proposes a national reasoning: «Fdi is by far the first party and Fi already represents the regional presidents in Piedmont, Sicily, Calabria and Basilicata. In the regions where the center-left governs, it is up to us to indicate the candidate.” Finally, an answer also on the point that elections are won at the centre: «It’s a theory that has no basis in reality. If that were the case, Meloni wouldn’t be prime minister.” The regional elections, however, are over a year away. And in addition to the ambitions of Cirielli and Martusciello, who have already given their willingness to lead the coalition, there are already other names that have been circulating in recent weeks. There are the two ministers from Campania Gennaro Sangiuliano And Matteo Pianteodosi, for example. The two have already said they want to continue as ministers, but the suggestion remains, especially for the head of Culture who is very committed to the territory and has obtained good feedback (over 35 thousand votes) in Raffaella Docimo’s candidacy. And then there is the civic profile of Antonio D’Amatoformer leader of Confindustria, who once again appears as a hypothesis for a centre-right candidacy.
