From 11.30am to 2pm on June 20th, the Avi.Coop workers’ rally will be held in Cesena, in front of the Amadori Group headquarters. The demonstration, called by Flai Cgil, Fai Cisl and Uila Uil, against the closure of the Monteriggioni plant and the dismissal of the 200 workers, is extended to all the workers of the various sites of the industrial group who will cross their arms for two hours, again on Thursday neighbor: an issue that therefore comes to have a multi-regional value.

On this occasion, the Monteriggioni staff will stop for eight hours precisely to participate in the garrison in the Romagna city. Bus departures from Poggibonsi, from Colle di Val d’Elsa, from Siena. Meanwhile, the company reiterates its willingness to discuss with the unions and institutions: “We are not abandoning the table – explains the Amadori Group – aware of the social and economic responsibility we have for the territory”.

Without prejudice, however, that the divestment of the Monteriggioni production center is unfortunately the only certain fact at the moment. Solidarity also comes from political and civic forces for the employees in attendance. “The closure of the Monteriggioni site by Amadori affects 200 workers, especially casual workers, who will find themselves without work and without pay from July”, the provincial Democratic Party states in a note. “The crisis unit immediately opened by the Region was of no avail. We side with the trade union forces in this battle for justice. A company, Amadori, which generates profits in the millions, cannot carry out social butchery on people’s skin. All our institutional representatives are already committed to saving this company. We hope that the demonstration in front of the Amadori factory will convince the company to review the decisions made”.

The Vivi Poggibonsi civic list expresses closeness to the workers: “We have arrived at this critical situation despite the commitment of public institutions and trade unions. A good number of families who will find themselves without work and without a salary live in the municipality of Poggibonsi. We know very well how difficult it will be for them to find a job relocation and the situation is aggravated by the fact that for them, since Avi.Coop. is an agricultural cooperative, it is impossible to access social safety nets who will only be able to enjoy agricultural unemployment from 2025. We cannot help but evaluate how misleading the advertising campaigns of Amadori Spa are, which also boasts of having a corporate social responsibility, when in reality we see a total disregard for this responsibility. We hope that there is still a space for mediation – concludes Vivi Poggibonsi – also due to the interest of the Region, the Province of Siena and the Municipality of Monteriggioni”.
