New measures to support Sicilian families affected by the increase in rents.

Thanks to the intervention of the Schifani Government and the Councilor for Infrastructure Alessandro Aricò, Sicilian tenants will be able to benefit from important economic help to combat high rents, which in recent years has created considerable difficulties for many families.

The increase in interest rates for mortgages has made purchasing properties increasingly difficult, forcing many families to opt for the rental solution.

Short-term rental, an increasingly widespread rental formula, especially in a tourist region like Sicily, has contributed to a dramatic increase in traditional rentals.

The exponential growth of real estate portals dedicated to short-term rentals, such as Airbnb, highlights this trend: in 2017, advertisements for short stays in Sicily were around 8,000, while in 2023 they rose to over 16,000.

In Palermo, there are currently around 3,000 advertisements for short-term rentals, compared to less than 1,000 proposals for traditional rentals.

In this real estate context, the Schifani Government, through Councilor Aricò, approved the RENTAL BONUS Notice to support Sicilian families in difficulty.

The financial allocation available for the Sicilian Region, approved by the National Fund for supporting access to rental housing of the Ministry of Infrastructure, amounts to 21.4 million euros.

These resources, intended for holders of a rental contract for public, private or social housing with an ISEE lower than the maximum expected level, represent concrete support for those who have been affected by the increase in rents.

Andrea Monteleone, Secretary of the ANIA Tenants Union, declared that the Rental Bonus is an essential social equity tool for the real economy of the island, helping families to cope with the increase in rents and reducing disputes and evictions due to non-payment that clog up the Sicilian courts.

This initiative follows the success of the MORTGAGE BONUS, which redistributed part of the high interest on mortgages to Sicilians, continuing a policy of concrete aid for citizens. Now, tenants will also be able to receive real support to address the high cost of rent, thus strengthening the economic and social stability of the region.
