Lucca Historiae Fest. History returns to the Walls

The second edition of Lucca Historiae Fest arrives: new locations, eras and increasingly compelling encounters for the clock of time. From 21 to 23 June, the city will host the initiative which will help citizens and tourists to take a real dive into the past, an event that promises to be even richer and more engaging than last year. The event, organized by the municipal administration to promote the history of the city in a way accessible to a wide audience, obtained the patronage of the Ministry of Culture this year.

The initiative was presented yesterday morning, in the Hall of Mirrors of Palazzo Orsetti, by the mayor Mario Pardini, the councilors for culture Mia Pisano and tourism Remo Santini, and the councilor delegate for historical traditions Lorenzo Del Barga.

The dates to mark on the calendar are June 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Compared to the first edition, the event will see an even wider participation of associations and re-enactors, with over 900 participants, and will be enriched by numerous new features. In addition to the confirmation of the large events area on the stands of San Frediano, this year the festival will also extend to the Real Collegio, which will host exhibitions and shows, to try to involve all visitors even more.

The Clock of Time, a section dedicated to the narration of the history of Lucca, includes historical reconstruction displays along the entire route of the Walls. The shows also include the knights’ joust, a military camp with siege engines, medieval fencing demonstrations, performances by flag-wavers and musicians, and historical Renaissance and 18th-century dances. New this year, at the Real Collegio there will be an area dedicated to the little ones with historical games. The displays and exhibitions will offer a variety of attractions, a market exhibition with many exhibitors, a multimedia story of the history of Lucca and the ‘Re-Knowing the Walls’ exhibition. Furthermore, visitors will be able to taste typical local products. The city and history at the center of the project, as is right and natural.

“A dive into the history of the city – say the councilors Santini and Pisano – which is growing from the point of view of the cultural and tourist offer and which this year has also obtained an important recognition from the Ministry of Culture. A complex event since organizational point of view, involving many cultural and associative entities, a quality and research event, which helps to increase the flow of good tourism”.
