TERAMO. Eighty years ago, on 14 June 1944, Teramo was liberated from Nazi-fascist occupation. An important date which yesterday morning was celebrated by the Anpi and by the civil and military authorities with two moments of reflection and reflection in two symbolic places of the city: in via Beccaria and in piazza Orsini. In the first case, the Teramo “Manfredo Mobili” section of the Anpi, the national partisan association, wanted to pay homage to the eight young people from Teramo killed by the Nazi-fascists on 13 June 1944, a few hours after the liberation of the city: a plaque, in via Beccaria, next to the court, remembers that last massacre at the point where it was committed. Yesterday here there was a moment of reflection and remembrance of that painful page for Teramo.
The procession then moved to Piazza Orsini, at the foot of the town hall, where there is another plaque in memory of the many fallen at the hands of the oppressors. A wreath was placed here and the representatives of the Anpi and the institutions wanted to remember the most important steps that led to the liberation of the city. «Teramo was liberated by the partisans even before the allies: this must always be kept in mind. On 14 June the partisan formations arrived, in particular the Rodomonti, on 15 June the Ammazzalorso formation and only on 17 June the allies”, he said Antonio Topitti of the ANPI, strongly underlining how important it is to keep historical memory alive and not to forget the sacrifice of those who gave their lives to free the country. The celebrations were organized as every year by the Anpi with the contribution of the Municipality of Teramo, the Province, the State Archives and the Teramo Nostra cultural association. The ceremony was attended by, among others, the senator and provincial president of the ANPI Antonio Franchi; Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto and the vice president of the Province Andrea Core; the vicar vice prefect Alberto Di Gaetano; the provincial secretary of the CGIL Pancrazio Cordone and representatives of the police. In the interventions that took place in Piazza Orsini, great emphasis was placed on the centrality of memory to avoid authoritarian tendencies and build a future that speaks of peace.
