The Municipality of Trapani has the Budget, after the favorable vote of the Council with 14 yes and 3 no, but the Region still commissioners the Municipality.
Trapani, in fact, is on the list of municipalities in the province that have not yet approved the financial instrument and which, therefore, have been placed under commissionership. The list, in addition to Trapani, includes Campobello, Castelvetrano, Marsala, Mazara, Paceco and San Vito lo Capo.
The Region’s decree is dated 14 June, but the Municipality of Trapani has the Budget, immediately enforceable, from 12 June, 48 hours before the publication of the decree itself. And so, the mayor Giacomo Tranchida and Alberto Mazzeo, municipal budget councilor, lash out against the Region for a measure that they define as “ranting”.
“This distraction appears even more wicked since the Commissioner is owed a salary in office, as well as reimbursement of travel expenses, which should illegitimately weigh on the pockets of the citizens of Trapani – say Tranchida and Mazzeo -. We hope that the department, realizing of the totally erroneous oversight, promptly revoke the commissioner’s appointment in self-defense”.
Then, the two directors return to the Council meeting during which the financial instrument was approved and openly criticize the opposition, considering that the 3 councilors present at the time of the vote (Fileccia, Lamia and Gianformaggio) gave a negative opinion, while the other 4 present at the session (Guaiana, Vassallo, Mangano and Spada, while Miceli did not participate in the proceedings because he was busy away from home) left the room before the vote
“From another point of view, the statements of the opposition councilors during the approval of the act in the council chamber are devoid of merit, as on the one hand they loudly ask for the approval of the financial instruments in order to ensure essential services to citizens and on the others vote against the current multi-year budget or vice versa leave the room, fleeing from any political confrontation. The only activity they have carried out is the presentation of some amendments to the single planning document, taking away financial resources from the procession of the Mysteries of Trapani to replenish appropriations that were already provided with adequate and sufficient sums to carry out maintenance services.
Paradoxically, in light of the rejection of these specious amendments by the council chamber, they abstain on the DUP which looks at the philosophy of government political action and instead the survivors in the chamber vote against the Budget. In practice, voting against essential services for citizens, against social services, against the planned hiring of staff, against the stabilization of temporary workers, against all plans for hundreds of millions of loans.
Such attitudes no longer surprise us. They necessarily have to cry wolf about what to do, subsequently choosing the policy of not doing. It would be more honest if they asked themselves what they have proposed to the municipal administration in terms of initiatives that are worthy of acceptance. We know well what they have done, nothing, other than making interventions that add nothing new to the council debate. Only by lying can opposition councilors support a version different from the real one.”
