We want a G7 in Taranto too

The G7 not many kilometers from us (less than 70), which involved, albeit marginally, two beautiful realities in the province of Taranto such as Grottaglie and Martina Franca, gave us an image of the efficiency of the public administrative machine which has now faded in our memories .

We have seen roads asphalted and the signs restored in a few days, walls that have been dirty for years repainted in just a few hours and with an unprecedented use of personnel, railings painted in a flash, roadsides cleaned as if a magic wand had been used.

But the amazement of every complaining and tax-paying citizen stopped short of the self-celebration of those who over the years travel at a reduced speed in the management and maintenance of public spaces.

L‘Anas (a company of the Infrastructure Hub of the State Railways) proudly declared in a recent press note that “over 50 units and vehicles are busy manning the junctions and connections with the main state roads in Puglia to guarantee the passage of delegations in complete safety coming from the airports of Grottaglie, Bari and Brindisi and present at the G7 summit. For the occasion, important maintenance works were completed on the relevant road network (for example the SS7 Appia), for a total investment of over 21 million euros, of which 12.9 million assigned by the Extraordinary Commissioner Fulvio Soccodato and 8, 5 million Anas investments”.

The institution was no exception Province of Taranto; in a statement sent to the editorial staff it informed that “the modernization works of the Sp 57 in the Martina Franca countryside were completed in record time, to asphalt the provincial roads traveled by the delegations (for example the Sp 83 near the “M. Arlotta” airport), the road surface, the implementation of guardrails along the roadway and the vertical-horizontal signs of the Sp 57 which connects Martina Franca to the junction with the Sp 58 for Alberobello have been modernised. Specifically, for the latter, the works, which covered approximately three kilometres, lasted a week with an extra-budgetary spending commitment of 432 thousand euros”.

Therefore, running the risk of being defined as healthy carriers of demagoguery, we can make an appeal so that there will soon be another summit of the world’s greats in our area, possibly in Taranto itself, so that we can admire with amazement asphalted roads, redone signs, roadsides cleared of weeds and waste, historic locations spruced up.

Can you imagine, for example, Palazzo Archita, the scene of a summit between the leaders of world politics? We are certain that the renovation works would be completed on schedule, or rather in record time…
