A 40 year old man, originally from the Middle East and previously recognized as a political refugee, he was expelled from Italian territory on charges of terrorism. The story began when the man, resident in Bolzano, was sentenced by the Court of Trento to four years in prison for criminal association with the aim of terrorism. Furthermore, in 2021, the Court of Bolzano sentenced him to four years and ten months for family mistreatment.

After serving his sentences, the unemployed subject lived in a rented room with a compatriot, without stable employment. In 2008, he obtained political refugee status, which was later revoked by the National Commission for the Right to Asylum. Subsequently, in 2021, his second request for international protection was rejected by the Territorial Commission of Verona. The Court of Venice also rejected his appeal, considering the seriousness of the accusations and believing that he ran no risks in the case of repatriation.

The man was part of the “JWEB” association of Merano, known for preparing Islamic extremists willing to carry out attacks in Europe and around the world. In light of these circumstances and the social danger ascertained during the trials, the Police Commissioner of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Paolo Sartori, issued an expulsion decree for the individual.

Yesterday, the man was taken to the Repatriation Center in Gradisca d’Isonzo (Gorizia) with a reinforced escort made up of agents from DIGOS and the Immigration Office of the Bolzano Police Headquarters. There, he will wait to be repatriated to his country of origin as soon as possible.

“It is essential that expulsion measures are made effective with the concrete removal from the urban context of those who represent a threat to the security of the State and citizens,” declared Commissioner Sartori. “This type of Security Police activity is aimed at preventing foreign subjects, often without the necessary qualifications to reside in our country, from taking root in our territory, causing social alarm and compromising civil coexistence.”
