Stellar edition for Canazei Base Camp. There are two star observation events at Sass Pordoi,
at the opening and closing of the event, which begins on June 28th with three days of festival in collaboration with @dolomitasogno and continues until August 22nd with stars of mountaineering and literature such as Nives Meroi, Tamara Lunger, Erri De Luca and Matteo Righetto

The new edition of Canazei Campo Base aims for the stars, opening and closing with two star observation events at Sass Pordoi. But this is not the only novelty of the 2024 event, dedicated to the current affairs and future of the mountains, under the direction of the journalist Elisa Salvi and the patronage of the Municipality of Canazei. In fact, this year the opening is, from 28 to 30 June, in the form of a festival in collaboration with @dolomitidasogno, an Instagram page (123 thousand followers) founded by Nicola Ercolini.

A festival which, on 28 June (9pm), immediately rises to altitude for “And we went out to see the stars again… at Sass Pordoi”: at 2950 meters together with the Alpine guides we take part in the “Lunar Tour” (about 40 minutes; easy ) and then admire the stars at nightfall with Claudio Balella, popular astronomer. On 29 June (9.30 am) we leave from Alba di Canazei for a trek to the Contrin refuge with Giselda Toressan, the mountain influencer known to the general public for her participation in the latest edition of Big Brother. In the evening (9pm), in Piaz Marconi in Canazei (in case of bad weather at the Marmolada cinema theater), the appointment is with “Climbs for everyone”, a meeting with Moreno Pesce, a paralympic athlete, who talks about his daily challenge with the peaks of life, followed by “Cime per tutti” a chat with Giselda Torresan and other young people who also talk about the mountains through social media, from Ercolini of @Dolomitidasogno, to Anna Zavatta and Debora Visentin of @unpostoincuitornare, up to Sebastiano Frollo of the podcast “Andata e return, mountain stories”. On Sunday 30 June (9.30 am), however, we will live the experience most in contact with nature: forest bathing in the woods near Canazei, followed (12.30 pm) by a convivial moment to close the festival.

After this intense start, Canazei Campo Base continues in its classic form of meetings with prestigious names on the international scene. On July 25th, Erri De Luca presents the docu-film “The Experimental Age” which met with great success when it premiered at the Trento Film Festival and is currently touring Italy. The film, produced by Soul, is an authentic poem whose protagonist is De Luca himself, a writer and mountaineer who, in his house and among the peaks he still frequents today, narrates with words and images the phase of life that he is going through. During the evening, there is also space for the presentation of “Discourse for a Friend”, De Luca’s latest book.

August 1st is the turn of “Tamara Lunger, beyond the Eight Thousand”: the mountaineer and explorer talks about the last complex years of her life which saw the dramatic loss of her beloved colleague JP Mohr on K2 and a period marked by moments of fear, which he also overcame thanks to paragliding and new projects such as the creation of “The Soul Mountaneer Foundation”.

On August 8, Nives Meroi is the protagonist of “You win or you lose together”. The only Italian woman to have climbed all 14 of the Earth’s 8000ers without using supplementary oxygen (second in history and third overall; first couple with her husband Romano Bennet), who in May gave up the ascent of Yalung Peak due to bad weather , talks about his experience on the highest peaks on the planet and how he prepares for an expedition.

On August 11th Matteo Righetto presents “The Wild Path”, the latest novel that is climbing the sales charts. Righetto, a Paduan writer and author, among other things, of the best seller “The Bear’s Skin” (from which the film of the same name with Marco Paolini was based in 2016), lives a good part of the year in Colle Santa Lucia (BL), a town of Ladin language and culture near the Val di Fassa, represents an important literary voice of the Ladin-Dolomite territory. On August 22nd, just as it began, Canazei Base Camp ends with a second ascent to 2950 meters for “And we went out to see the stars again… at Sass Pordoi”, with the observation of the stars together with the popular astronomer Claudio Balella.
