118 rescuer beaten in Via Platone

The rescuer, victim of a ferocious attack, is now under observation in hospital. Seus condemns yet another episode of violence.

Yesterday afternoon, a Seus rescue worker was brutally attacked in via Platone, ad Agrigentoby the patient he was helping and by a family member.

The particularly violent attack caused the rescuer a head injury that made him lose consciousness. Urgently transported to the emergency room of the San Giovanni di Dio hospital under code red, he is now under close medical observation.

The attacker was promptly arrested by the police, who promptly intervened at the scene of the accident. The news of the attack was spread by Seus herself.

“A cowardly act, unfortunately yet another towards the 118 operators, who carry out their duty with great professionalism and self-sacrifice,” declared the Seus Board of Directors, composed of the president Riccardo Castro, Pietro Marchetta and Maria Stella Marino . “The utmost solidarity goes to our rescuer, we are ready to protect him at every location,” they added.

Giuseppe Misuraca, head of the 118 operations center in Agrigento, also expressed a firm condemnation of this serious act of violence.

“We are close to our colleague and wish him a speedy recovery,” said Misuraca, underlining the need to protect emergency personnel, who daily expose themselves to considerable risks to save human lives.

This latest attack against healthcare workers highlights a growing problem that requires urgent interventions and more effective security measures to guarantee the safety of workers in the sector.

The solidarity expressed by institutions and colleagues highlights the importance of collective support for those who, with dedication and courage, play a crucial role in times of emergency.

The serious episode that occurred in Agrigento not only underlines the urgency of protecting rescuers, but also the need for broader reflection on the safety of healthcare workers, who are too often victims of unjustified violence.

Seus and local authorities continue to work to ensure a safer and more dignified working environment for all healthcare professionals.
