UDINE – A final act of generosity characterized the young life of Leonardo Scarel: donate organs to give hope and new life chances to others. This final gesture took place on Friday 14 June at the hospital Santa Maria della Misericordia of Udine, where a team of experts carried out the removal. Leonardo, who had celebrated his 21st birthday on April 11, tragically passed away on Thursday due to serious injuries suffered in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday in Cervignano.
What had happened
Returning home to Terzo di Aquileia, where he lived with his parents Maurizio and Silvia, Leonardo lost control of his car during a violent storm, hitting a tree violently. Despite the immediate intervention of the emergency services, Leonardo’s condition proved to be extremely critical, leading to his death on Thursday morning. The doctors and nurses at the Udine hospital had to give up when, despite intensive care, Leonardo’s heart and brain activity stopped forever.
