In the week between the celebrations of Sant’Antonio and those of San Pietro e Paolo, Trame returns to the centre, with courses and historical events in the name of the theme of memory chosen for the 2024 edition.

Despite the council resolution providing for the concession of the properties from 18 June, since yesterday the organization has taken possession of the requested municipal spaces, continuing along the line of also having what is not open to others (last year the Teatro Umberto, this year access to the top floor of the San Domenico complex from which the banners of the event emerge), and this morning a Lametina press conference to reiterate the plan of the event which had a first launch at the book fair in Turin, other releases outside Calabria, and some updates in the meantime until the definitive form which will be staged from 18 to 23 June.

The calendar includes topics and guests already seen in previous editions, with some connections to current political events; around the books linked to the various aspects of crime and legality, professionals, television and print journalists (little online, although there is no shortage of popular newspapers and podcasters), some other characters from the small screen and in the web portion the managers of the Lo page Statale Jonico, a social space that with irony carries forward stereotypes about Calabria that are not always honourable.

New aspect “Plots in the city”, with which we should exit the Lamezia cultural circle limited in a few hundred meters between Palazzo Nicotera and Cloister of San Domenico, which will consist of readings announced between Piazza Mazzini, Court, Teatro Costabile and Lamezia station Terme Centrale, while the “Lameto topic share” is ensured by a book linked to the activities of the archaeological museum (which will also host two exhibitions), with also a couple of meetings linked to national and local sponsors and partners.

At the press conference the tone was one of optimism on the part of the organisers, however complaining about how the festival was organized without knowing whether the regional funding linked to the call for historicized events will also arrive for 2024 as in previous years. It explains how, on the other hand, the number of partners and sponsors has increased, with the president of the Trame Foundation, Nuccio Iovene, believing that «even in the uncertainty of the Calabrian bureaucracy, there is an interest in the event and its continuation over time », ensuring that in any case the intention was always to remain in the chosen summer window, in Lamezia Terme, with therefore obviously a lower impact on the expected financing.

In remote connection, the artistic director Giovanni Tizian presents the program as a need to deal with certain themes, broadening the field to include art, social media, current political affairs, arguing that «in this historical moment of denialism it is necessary to have memory for the future, a memory shared with the protagonists and their testimonies”.

Mayor Paolo Mascaro says he is satisfied with the attempt to get out of the “cultural bubble” behind Corso Numistrano through the readings, and is sure that Trame will once again be among the events financed by the Region, then focusing on the projects on two confiscated properties financed in scope of the Pnrr and on the need to review the legislation on the dissolution of municipal councils citing the electoral result of the former mayor of Bari in the European elections. Mascaro also calls for “strict respect for the rules”, which should apply both to citizens and to local authorities and associations, a concept also appealed to by the councilor for culture Annalisa Spinelli, moving on to critical political reasoning on healthcare and autonomy differentiated.

«I hope that anyone who comes to this event is included in the culture and becomes aware of the area’s offerings» is the hope of the director of the archaeological museum, Simona Bruni.
