In recent days, the State Police arrested a 31-year-old of foreign origins, caught in the act of committing crimes of violence, threats, resistance to a public official and injuries. In particular, during the afternoon territorial control services, some citizens reported to a crew from the “Borgo- Ognina” police station, passing through via Monserrato, the presence of a foreign citizen who was threatening passers-by with a sharp metal object.
Once on site, the officers identified the reported person. As soon as they approached, the man, immediately appearing hostile, attempted to hit one of the two policemen with the metal object who, from inside the service car, managed to avoid the blow by suddenly closing the window.
The man’s violent attitude towards the two policemen was shown more aggressively when both members of the crew got out of the car to proceed with his identification. To escape control, the man attempted to walk away through the streets of the area but the officers, intending to stop him, followed him to prevent him from hitting unsuspecting passers-by.
Having learned from the Operations Room of the Police Headquarters that an intervention was underway to identify an aggressive person, the Falcons of the Flying Squad, who were listening to the radio, came to help by cordoning off the escape routes to prevent the foreigner from being able to move further away.
Through the specific operational techniques envisaged for similar situations, the police managed, albeit with difficulty, to immobilize the man and, after disarming him, identified him as a foreign citizen, irregular on the national territory.
In light of what happened he was arrested. After the ritual formalities, in agreement with the Public Prosecutor on duty, he was transferred to the Piazza Lanza prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
At the end of the intervention, both the staff of the Flying Squad and that of the Borgo-ognina police station sought medical treatment after having suffered injuries during the control and identification phases of the man.
In the following days, the arrest was validated by the Judicial Authority which at the same time ordered the man to be placed in precautionary custody in prison.
