TREVISO – Valerio Mazzola, 205 cm tall, is the first new arrival at Nutribullet Treviso Basket for the 2024/25 season. Born in Ferrara on 7 March 1988, in the last season Mazzola played in the top flight with the Carpegna Prosciutto Pesaro shirt and was on the scoresheet in all thirty championship games, collecting 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 18.6 minutes of play. average, with a season high of 17 points in Pesaro’s victory over Pistoia on the 27th matchday. Raised in the youth sector of the Basket Club Ferrara, Mazzola appeared in Serie A with the Carife Ferrara shirt in the 2008-09 season, before moving to Montegranaro from the summer of 2010 until 2014, the year in which he moved to Virtus Bologna, with which continues on its growth path reaching 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds on average in 26 minutes of use. After completing his experience at Virtus, Mazzola starts again from Turin, expanding his game and developing an increasingly reliable three-point shot in the two seasons spent under the Mole Antonelliana, winning an Italian Cup as a protagonist in 2018, scoring 6 points and collecting 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes on the pitch. In the following summer he moved to Reyer Venezia, with whom he played four seasons, winning the Scudetto in 2018-19 and the Italian Cup in 2020. In 2022-23, however, the call from Pesaro, with whom Mazzola played the last two seasons. «When the proposal from Treviso Basket arrived I had positive feelings. Then obviously there is the Treviso factor, it is a city that thrives on basketball, with a very warm audience and an arena that is always full. Furthermore, I will have the opportunity to be coached again by coaches Vitucci and Morea. Alberto saw me grow by following me in the youth team and beyond, I already had Frank in Turin, and I got along very well.”
Did having already been coached by Frank Vitucci play an important role in your decision?
«I have excellent memories of Frank, otherwise I wouldn’t have accepted this proposal (laughs, ed.). I remain ready to adapt to the team’s needs, but I can say that I have great feelings for this adventure, at my age I was looking for new stimuli and Treviso represented the right opportunity.”
On several occasions you took the field at the Palaverde as an opponent: how did it seem to you?
«As an opponent, a very hot and hostile environment, they put a lot of pressure on the visiting team. You can see that they have a basketball experience and you can feel that there is competence. Now I’m curious to experience it as a Treviso Basket player.”
What do you think you can bring to this team?
«If I had to talk about my characteristics I would start from defensive solidity and the ability to open the field in attack, but also on a character level I always try to be supportive and support my teammates. I will certainly be at the coach’s complete disposal.”
What are your goals?
«I don’t like making proclamations, I can only say that I chose Treviso because I am convinced that I can experience great emotions».
Your plans for the summer?
«I’m used to staying on track, I even have a gym inside my house. Then soon I will meet with Alberto Morea in Ferrara to share part of my summer preparation, with the aim of arriving at the meeting in the best possible condition.”
