Municipality of Bergamo, for the new Carnevali Council negotiates with the lists. The numbers of the Democratic Party and other unresolved issues

Elena Carnevali wants to close the game on the council soon. But there are still issues to be resolved and the negotiations could continue for another two or three days. The new mayor is meeting the lists that supported her and led her to victory (54.95% against 42.24% of the centre-right challenger, Andrea Pezzotta). But you are also examining profiles and preferences: the latter will be important, not necessarily decisive. Bergamo Europea yesterday announced that it had met the mayor (there were Paola Rossi, new councillor, Gianmarco Gabrieli, provincial president of Italia Viva and Dino Paoli, spokesperson for +Europa) and that it had «reaffirmed its support for the initiatives of the new administration, hoping for a fruitful collaboration”.
There are two certainties that Elena Carnevali had already communicated during the electoral campaign, namely the reconfirmation of Sergio Gandi, Pd (perhaps still with the delegation to the Budget) and that of Marcella Messina, Lista Gori (who should continue to deal with social policies, as she has done in the last five years). Another certain name is that of Francesco Valesini who, since 2014, has been involved in urban redevelopment. He would once again join the team as a coach, but on the Gori list.

Then there are the requests from the groups. First of all, those of the Democratic Party, which obtained a good result, 26.5%, and would like five places on the council, in addition to the presidency of the chamber. In addition to Gandi, certain reconfirmations are those of Marzia Marchesi (Schlein area) and Giacomo Angeloni. Even the name of Ferruccio Rota is practically taken for granted: the hypothesis is that he will go to take care of public works, the sector left uncovered by Marco Brembilla, who never stood for re-election. If the Democratic Party has five councillors, then Romina Russo, Schlein area, could also be in the team. But there is debate on this point: there are balances to be respected and also the desire not to move the team too far to the left. One hypothesis was to entrust Russo with Culture, led for ten years by Nadia Ghisalberti, who did not stand for re-election, but not everyone is convinced (Daniele Rocchetti, who is at the end of his second mandate as president of the Acli of Bergamo). But it is more likely that Russo will be entrusted with the Education mandate, which belonged to Loredana Poli. However, it is not a given that the Democratic Party will be able to obtain five seats, in addition to the presidency of the chamber, a role that could also be covered by Russo or, more probably, by Francesca Riccardi, who obtained 375 preferences (only 19 less than the Russian). Part of the Democratic Party is pushing to have Riccardi as president of the city council, due to her moderate profile and also due to her experience as president of the PD city assembly.
Even the Gori List (10.1%) is aiming high and does not hide that it would like a third place in the council, perhaps the reconfirmation of councilor Stefano Zenoni (he led Environment and Mobility). But it is not a given that he can achieve it. It is more likely that a person chosen by the mayor will deal with traffic. Gianni Scarfone is a name that cannot help but come to mind, but the former CEO of Atb is busy working on the new tramway as CEO and, so far, has always ruled out jumping the fence by transforming from technician into politician. More likely is the name of Filippo Simonetti, Pd, president of Teb. Then there is the Futura list, which asks for a department and the choice, in this case, should fall on Oriana Ruzzini, who obtained 486 preferences (a record among outgoing councillors).
There are many requests to the mayor. She will have the final say on everything. This morning she will have to take a break from negotiations: she will be at the University for Graduation Day. In the afternoon there is Pride: the Municipality has removed her sponsorship and she has not yet decided whether she will be there. An inherited flaw that can be overcome by focusing on the joint and the issues still to be resolved.
