LAWN. The lieutenant colonel leaves prison and goes under house arrest with control of the electronic bracelet Sergio Turinicommander of the Carabinieri company of Prato, arrested on 31 May on charges of corruption for an act contrary to official duties and unauthorized access to the computer system.
The decision
This was decided by the review court which replaced the measure of precautionary custody in prison with that of house arrest, accepting the request of the defense lawyer Giovanni Renna. Roberto Moretti, owner of an investigative agency, remains in prison in Turin, in turn accused of corruption. He was placed under house arrest but almost immediately ended up in prison because he answered a client’s call: the Review rejected the request of his defender Flavio Campagna.
The other name at the center of the investigation
The Prato businessman also ended up under house arrest Riccardo Matteini Bresci, majority shareholder of the Colle Group: for him the defender Pier Matteo Lucibello asked for the measure to be revoked. The request will be discussed Tuesday 18 June to the Review. According to the accusation, Turini made himself available to friendly Italian and Chinese entrepreneurs by illegally accessing the law enforcement database system to provide information. At least 99 accesses identified. In particular, he allegedly provided Matteini Bresci with information on investigations, covered by secrecy, relating to employees and news on
industrial. In exchange, the entrepreneur would have paid for a trip to the USA for the lieutenant colonel’s son and interceded with the undersecretary for foreign affairs Giorgio Silli to take action with the general command of the Carabinieri to guarantee Turini’s stay in Prato. According to the accusation, the lieutenant colonel also procured clients for his friend Roberto Moretti by providing him with information illegally obtained from the database used by the police in exchange for bottles of wine worth over 1,800 euros. Both the lawyer Renna and the lawyer Campagna were disconcerted, not so much by the outcome of the hearing at the Review Court, but by the fact that they learned about it from a news agency. As of late this afternoon, the two lawyers had not received any notification from the Court, something that had never happened to either of them in their decades of careers.
