the damage is assessed

The effects of the violent storm that hit the Northern Gargano last night are still evident and will continue to be felt for the next few hours. Among the municipalities most affected is Vico del Gargano.

The Vico-San Menaio-Calenella provincial road was reopened late yesterday evening, but many municipal roads in the Vico del Gargano area remain closed to traffic. Today the transit ban is still in force on the municipal roads Scaramuzzo, Montelongo, Passarella, Via Valle delle Noci, Via del Carbonaio, Via San Michele, and on the municipal roads Particchiano and Chianche Lisce.

For safety reasons, the mayor also ordered the closure of the municipal cemetery yesterday.

The storm also caused significant damage in Vieste, where the concert and fireworks show scheduled for the feast of Sant’Antonio were cancelled. The solemn procession has been postponed to Sunday, as communicated by the Sant’Antonio da Padova Festivities Committee.

The ‘Pegaso’ civil protection teams and GEV volunteers intervened in various areas of the Gargano municipality: in Piazza Santa Maria, Contrada Petto, Contrada Santo Stefano and Contrada Costella for the removal of fallen trees. Furthermore, in Località Piano Grande a water pump was used to manage the flooding, while in Via Sant’Eufemia a stretch of asphalt collapsed, requiring further interventions.
