A last dinner in which Pope Francis acts as waiter for the diners, a work by the artist Andrea Pancino, becomes a symbol of the 2024 edition of Welcome to Paradise, a famous contemporary art district organized among the alleys and abandoned houses of the Monserrato district of Modica thanks to an idea by the Brazilian artist Marcel Cordeiro.
There are now just a few days left until the inauguration of the event which this year will see the installations of 28 artists transform the neighborhood into an open-air museum for an entire month: from 22 June to 22 July Monserrato will be transformed into the large park of “Francesco World “, an itinerary designed around the hottest current issues interpreted through the gaze of Pope Francis, the first Pope in history to write a book on art and to expressly attribute to artists a fundamental role in promoting dialogue between peoples and the recovery of an essential humanity.
«Through our works and drawing inspiration from the Pope’s thoughts – explains the artistic director Marcel Cordeiro – we will talk about war, peace, mercy, ecology, spirituality, immigration, artificial intelligence, the elderly, the LGBT+ world, feminicides, abandonment, poverty, hunger, disability , happiness”.
Artists, photographers, intellectuals, architects, activists make up the heterogeneous working group that will give life to the Welcome to Paradise exhibition itinerary this year: in addition to Cordeiro himself, Najla Hassen, Franco Menna, Gabriela Costache, Simona Giuliano, Flavia Puglisi, Andrea De Carvalho, Luca del Guercio, Demetrio di Grado, Andrea Mario Bert, Calogero Arcidiacono, Simone Mastrelli, Stefano Caruso, Francesco Nicastro, Giò Scifo, Pamela Vindigni, Andrea Pancino, Franca Lambiase, Mark Cannata, Rosa Cerruto, Marco Grifola, Elisa Corallo, Noemi Guastella, Carmen Scarso, Lorenzo Sammito, Stefania Pagliazzo, a collective of artists formed by Patrizia Bonvissuto, Antonella Floridia, Ausilia Ruta, Carmela Saturnino and a collective of artists formed by prisoners of the Sollicciano prison (Florence) .
See you on Saturday 22 June at 8pm in Modica for the grand inauguration party of Welcome to Paradise!
