It is not the classic story of fraud against defenseless pensioners, the one that comes from Bologna, where a 55-year-old fraudster was “trapped” by the same victims he was trying to deceive. That is, a couple of eighty-year-olds, helped by their peers and neighbors. It all started when an 88-year-old answered the intercom: on the other end of the line, the scammer introduced himself as a technician who had to give “a ‘nuclear shock’ to the meter and also to the safe with the mobile phone”. It’s a shame that the 88-year-old in question was not only in great shape, but also had a past as a researcher at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. Experience that allowed him to spot deception in the blink of an eye.
The trap
However, he maintained theaplomb, inviting the scammer to come up and start his inspections from the meter on the balcony. Which, however, did not exist: when the intruder went out onto the terrace, the pensioner promptly locked him out, calling 112. At that point the scammer tried to attract the attention of his two accomplices, a man and a woman, who tried to save him by breaking into the building. But they failed in their mission: waiting for them on the landing they found the former researcher and his neighbor, an 80-year-old with his partner, who had left the house, suspicious of his screams. At that point, he writes the Press, the two had no choice but to run away. The 55-year-old, however, was freed after the intervention of the police, but reported. The man already has several precedents for fraud and theft in various regions of Italy.
