we start with the realization

ANCONA – With the introduction of an advanced technological innovation, Ancona is preparing to revolutionize its urban roads through the creation of the trolleybus ring. This infrastructure, designed with efficiency and sustainability solutions, has completed its approval process. Let’s see in detail what this project involves and what its implications are for the city.

The project

The Ancona trolleybus ring is an ambitious project financed with 6.5 million euros from the Ministry of Transport and co-financing of 700 thousand euros from the Municipality. It promises to radically transform urban mobility, encouraging a significant shift to electric local public transport (LPT). Serving the exchange points with the road network outside the city, this ring will be fundamental for reducing traffic in the urban centre, offering an efficient, frequent and zero-impact service. “The trolleybus ring project – explains the deputy mayor and transport councilor Giovanni Zinni – from the point of view of political paternity it is lost in the mists of time: it is, in fact, an idea cultivated and appreciated by all political forces. Today the municipal administration of Ancona is called to give a concrete follow-up to this idea. Unfortunately, the project of the previous municipal administration, carried out in concert with the transport company, had stalled due to the lack of alignment between the economic-financial plan and the renovation of the two abandoned kilometers of the previous trolleybus line (in the Piazza section Ugo Bassi – via Giannelli ed.). This entailed a safety problem if the total restructuring of the infrastructure had not been carried out. We have therefore implemented a new project, for which I thank engineer Paride Gasparini, director of the trolleybus line of the Conerobus company. Through bimodality, out of 6 kilometers of trolleybus ring, 4 will be traveled on the existing line, which will be maintained, but already has authorization from the Ministry, and 2 kilometers will be traveled by new vehicles thanks to the batteries, which are recharged in the remaining part of the journey”.

The Trolleybus Ring Route

The route of the trolleybus ring will start from Piazza Cavour, crossing Corso Stamira, Via XXIX Settembre, Via Marconi, Piazza Rosselli, Via Giordano Bruno, Piazza Ugo Bassi, the Viaduct of Reconstruction, Via Martiri della Resistenza, the Galleria Risorgimento, Via Giannelli and will return to Piazza Cavour. This route was strategically chosen to serve the main exchange areas and focal points of the city.

The Approved Variant and the New Technology

The municipal council recently approved a fundamental variant to the project, introducing bimodal technology. This technology allows the use of new generation vehicles with high autonomous driving capacity, thanks to a rechargeable battery that allows you to travel long distances without continuous contact with wires. This solution responds to the observations of the Ministry of Transport, allowing the redevelopment of the line only in the sections approved for trolleybus transport, while in the two kilometers previously abandoned the wire/battery alternation will be used.
